Welcome to THA BLUE HERB RECORDINGS! We live in the city of Sapporo, which is located on Japan’s northern-most island, called Hokkaido. We have a very short summertime, and once we enter the winter season this area is very cold and often snowed in. We established this label in 1997. In the beginning there was only one rap group, THA BLUE HERB, on the label. Japan’s enormous city, Tokyo, seemingly owned the music industry, and as a result Sapporo had no choice but to get only a tiny share. Our original motive for organizing the label was to create our own scene without having to leave our lovely hometown. And… a long time passed. THA BLUE HERB has piled on several releases and countless live performances. And this struggle, started from one tiny room, has enjoyed great success and in the process we’ve hopefully gained many people’s attention, respect, and partnership. After all, we exist now. At the same time we’ve seen the label evolve. At first, we didn’t have any interest but hip hop, but the search for cutting-edge music has taken us to various genres like break beat, electronica, techno, house, and dub, and we continue to expand. Our travels haven’t completed yet, and we keep searching for “Unique music”, “Exalting music”, and “Serious music”. Sapporo is a very small city compared to other Japanese cities like Tokyo or Osaka. But we’re proud to say that, here in Sapporo, the music has taken hold and blossomed into a growing scene, and it’s not only a good standard but also a good teaching material for us. We’ve got wonderful clubs, great DJs, and above all, passionate music junkies and serious dancers. If you have a chance, please come and see Sapporo! Well, enjoy yourself!
